Our company origins date back to 1907, when Donley County Abstract was formed in Clarendon, Texas to offer abstracting services in Donley County. In 1998, James Shelton acquired Security Abstract Company, the successor to Donley County Abstract. By that time, the company had expanded to offer title insurance and related services in Donley, Armstrong, and Hall counties. Two years later, James formed Great Plains Abstract & Title in Pampa, Texas, to operate in Gray County and later Roberts County. In 2016, James was joined by his son Taylor in the acquisition of Wheeler Title & Abstract Co. in Wheeler, Texas.
In 2019, the company acquired the original sovereignty title plant covering Briscoe County, and in 2023, the company acquired the title plant and other assets of H.S. Black Abstractor, Inc. in Childress, Texas. In 2023, the companies rebranded under the name Shelton Title. Shelton Title now has office locations in Clarendon, Pampa, Wheeler, Silverton, and Childress and offers title insurance and other real estate related services in Donley, Armstrong, Childress, Hall, Gray, Roberts, Briscoe, and Wheeler counties in the Texas Panhandle.
